Question of the day - Have you taken part in a dog training class online or in person and what inspired you to do so?
To start the month of blogs off I wanted to bring to you Woodhead Woofers, they are very much in the forefront of my mind. I am currently taking part in their online Improvers course with my exuberant dog of 6 years. Yes, still training after 6 years. However, I have seen some REAL changes in him since joining the Woodhead Woofers course 4 weeks ago. I am finally talking his language. Paws crossed.
Woodhead Woofers run private and group dog training classes, puppy classes, fun agility, home boarding and day care. Based in Black Torrington near Hatherleigh. Please read on but don't forget to like, share and enjoy them on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/woodheadwoofers12/
Liz is an IMDT qualified dog trainer. Mark seems to be the man behind the scenes, holding it all together including the camera for the online courses. There are numerous four-legged co-workers who take it in turns to model the training sessions with Liz. I think they are well paid, there seems to be a lot of sprats and liver cake being rewarded during filming.
For this mini-blog series I am sending each blog collaborator a list of questions to get more of an insight into their mindset and their business. Liz did not disappoint, from parkour to crochet it’s all there.
How does your business help dogs and their people?
We provide training support in person or online. We run classes for all ages & abilities, including: Puppies, agility, scent work, body confidence. We also provide 1-2-1 training support for owners struggling with a particular problem e.g.dogs that struggle being around other dogs & other types of reactivity.
What are your goals and ambitions for your business over the next year and how can we help?
We are busy designing & building an adventure playground for dogs! We aim to run doggie parkour sessions & private hire of enclosed field for rehabilitation & training of dogs that need space.
What was your biggest triumph from the last year?
Changing our in-person classes to provide successful online courses.
What is your favourite part of your job?
Changing attitudes to dog training & teaching new science-based methods to make training fun & engaging! Seeing ‘ahaa’ moments in both dogs & owners. Watching progress & helping owners & dogs achieve their full potential.
What is the funniest thing that has happened in your job?
There have been many!!! From falling over, demonstrating a position whilst talking through my legs with my bum in the air, dogs pooing on equipment or farting......
What are your favourite things about your community of clients, customers and supports?
My clients are so supportive & kind. They recommend me, share posts & join in competitions.
If this wasn’t your job what would you do instead?
I really can’t see me doing anything else - but I love fibres - so something to do with needlework or crochet.
If you were to start a business again, what advise would you give yourself in general?
Don’t try to please everyone!
If you could be any dog, what breed would you be and how does that align with your personality?
Wire Fox Terrier - little with a big personality, loyal & loving but won’t take no for an answer!!
What is the earliest dog related memory that you can recall?
Teaching my family dog to jump over garden canes propped up on paint cans - think I was 6yrs.
Name three things you couldn’t live without?
Dogs, dogs, dogs.
I know that Woodhead Woofers have not only helped my relationship with my dog but inevitably it will help my dog photography, with this new found understanding of how dogs think. I am so grateful to them both.
